We are currently looking for a Construction EHS Manager (Client-Facing) to join our team on a large-scale data center construction project in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead safety initiatives while supporting future phases of the project based on your performance and client needs.
Position Summary
As the Construction EHS Manager, you will provide on-site safety leadership for a vibrant, fast-paced data center construction project. This highly visible position demands a confident and experienced safety professional who can effectively enforce safety protocols, manage risks proactively, and foster strong relationships with construction leadership and an engaged client safety team.
Role Expectations & Work Environment
This role is based within an active construction site, where you will face various schedule demands, weather impacts, and multiple stakeholder priorities. You are expected to consistently enforce safety requirements, use sound judgment, and collaborate effectively with construction leadership, joint venture partners, and the client team. The ideal candidate will uphold uncompromising safety standards while being a strong, credible presence in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the on-site EHS lead for data center construction activities.
- Enforce safety requirements across all JV partners and subcontractors.
- Maintain a strong daily field presence through site walks, inspections, and hazard identification.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with high-hazard construction activities.
- Lead incident investigations, near-miss reviews, and corrective action implementation.
- Participate in and support client safety meetings, audits, and inspections.
- Deliver effective site orientations, toolbox talks, and targeted safety training.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and applicable state and local regulations.
- Track and report safety metrics, trends, and observations to project and corporate leadership.
- Exercise stop-work authority when necessary and escalate concerns appropriately.
What Success Looks Like in the First 90 Days
- Establish trust and credibility with the client safety team, JV partners, and field leadership.
- Clearly define and reinforce site safety expectations.
- Identify top risk areas related to schedule acceleration and weather impacts.
- Operate independently while remaining aligned with Corporate EHS leadership.
- Be recognized as firm, fair, and consistent in safety enforcement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
- 5+ years of EHS experience supporting large-scale construction projects.
- Experience in data centers, mission-critical facilities, or fast-track construction is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to influence without direct authority in multi-employer or JV environments.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, EPA, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001.
- Professional certifications such as CHST, OHST, CSP, or similar are preferred.
- Confident communicator with a strong field presence and sound judgment.
- Proficiency with EHS management systems and Microsoft Office.
