Health & Safety Coordinator
City of HooverHiring Range: $29.08/hr.- $38.93/hr.
Starting salary may be adjusted depending on experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Risk Management, Industrial Safety, Public Administration or related field that includes Risk Management related course work and three (3) years of related experience.
OR
Associate’s degree in Safety Management, Risk Management, Industrial Safety, Public Administration or related field that includes Risk Management related course work and five (5) years of related experience.
OR
High School diploma or GED and seven (7) years of experience performing industrial safety development, safety training, and/or OSHA inspection activities preferably for local government and/or law enforcement.
- Work experience interpreting and applying federal, state, and local laws and regulations regarding risk management (e.g. HIPAA, OSHA, Workers' Compensation).
- Possess a current Alabama driver's license and the ability to obtain a City of Hoover drivers permit.
- Possess attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Experience conducting safety audits and field inspections
- Experience with conflict resolution and professional communication.
- Availability to work on-call.
PREFERRED
- OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30 certification
- Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI)
- Experience working under a self-insured insurance program dealing with general liability, auto liability, or workers' compensation
- Experience in Risk Management within a government entity
- Experience performing on-the-job risk assessments (e.g. ergonomic assessment, fire control assessment)
- Promote and cultivate a city-wide culture of safety.
- Collaborate with departments to develop and implement safety policies, processes, procedures, goals and objectives in order to reduce vehicle accidents, property damage and workplace injuries.
- Conduct periodic building, grounds, parks and playground safety inspections and recommend corrective action if needed.
- Oversee and participate in safety audits, job hazard analyses, workplace hazard evaluations and in-field inspections.
- Collect and analyze claims data from accident, injury and property damage reports to identify root-cause analyses. Create and generate reports, summarize data and define target goals for performance improvement.
- Promote safe work environments by developing safety awareness programs and providing regular safety and risk training classes for departments. Conduct targeted safety meetings for departments upon request.
- Attend all Accident Review Board meetings and assist Risk Manager in re-establishing the Health & Safety Committee.
- Assist Risk Manager with health and safety related budget requests.
- Prepare and make in-person and virtual presentations to groups including employees, elected and appointed officials, and outside organizations regarding safety related items.
- Stay current on evolving environment, health and safety standards and legislative changes through active participation in professional development conferences, workshops and forums.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
