EHS Advisor
GFL EnvironmentalKey Responsibilities
- Provides guidance, support, and oversight to Operations on the day-to-day
administration of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) activities across GFL
operations
- Collaborates on the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS programs and initiatives, without assuming operational ownership
- Monitors and verifies compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act,
Construction and Industrial Regulations, and other applicable legislation, and escalates gaps as required
- Guides Operations to maintain compliance with customer programs such as ISN Networld, Avetta, and Contractor Check through guidance, review, and verification
- Supports the rollout and ongoing administration of EHS programs including COR, ISO45001, Subcontractor Management, and Return to Work, while Operations retain accountability for execution
- Provides guidance and follow-up for training and development programs, including coordination, tracking, and field-level coaching
- Supports Operations with onboarding and orientations for new hires by providing EHS guidance and verification
- Acts as a key liaison between EHS and Operations to ensure alignment, consistency, and clarity of expectations
- Supports EHS Leadership in pursuits to the corporate standards
- Communicates with regulatory officials for incident management and reporting
- Participates as required in client and project meetings to provide EHS guidance, insight, and support
- Prepares EHS reports and summaries to support operational decision-making
- Conducts field audits and inspections to verify compliance and identify improvement opportunities
- Expected to work approximately 50% in the office and 50% in the field, but depends on scheduling and other needs
- Typical hours per day are 7:00am – 4:00pm
- Ability to support shutdown activities, including extended shifts of up to 12 hours, approximately 2–3 times per year
- Performs other duties as assigned by the EHS Manager
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
- 3–5+ years of experience in a similar on-site EHS support or advisory role, with
experience in Waste Management, Transportation, or Mining required
- Degree, diploma, or professional certification in Health and Safety or a related field preferred
- Experience or exposure to working within the Google WorkSpace would be an asset
- Strong team player with the ability to influence, guide, and support Operations in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Proficient with Google software and safety associated software for reporting,
inspections, file uploads and sharing, meetings, etc.
- Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage
competing priorities
