The Fire Safety Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of our Hospital's Fire Protection Program. This position involves providing expert technical support across various operations including training, maintenance, construction, engineering, inspection, and procurement. You will take the lead in planning, coordinating, and delivering fire safety training sessions, including fire drills, in-services, and orientation for staff throughout the hospital and its off-site locations.
Your responsibilities will include updating fire safety plans as needed, overseeing various safety programs such as Fire Safety, Above Ceiling Work Permits, Hot Work Permits, Interim Life Safety, and Fire Watch. You will be in charge of training, evaluating, and guiding staff and vendors on all Fire Safety Programs and will conduct ongoing audits to recommend necessary program changes. Your insights will contribute to the Life Safety Sub Committee on relevant issues.
Additionally, you will maintain meticulous records and reports regarding fire safety hazard inspections, prevention measures, and safety activities. You will also ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including those from the NYS-DOH, CMS, The Joint Commission, OSHA, FDNY, and the NFPA Life Safety Code. It will be essential to monitor construction or renovation sites for adherence to the Hospital's Interim Life Safety Measure program and respond to Fire Safety Alert alarm activations during normal business hours as well as off-hours, including nights and weekends. Post-incident inspections for fire alarm activations will also be part of your duties, as you serve as the key contact for the local fire department.
This is a full-time position based at NewYork-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center.
Required Criteria
- A minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare environment or a fire-protection-related field.
- In-depth knowledge of Joint Commission standards, NFPA standards, NYC Fire Department Directives, NYC Fire and Building Codes, and OSHA regulations.
- Proficient computer skills with familiarity in word processing, database management, spreadsheet development, and cloud systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Criteria
- A Bachelor's degree in Fire Science or a related field.
- Certification as a Fire Drill Conductor.
- Certification as a Fire Safety Director.

Salary Range
$67,500-$86,500/Annual
