Job Title: Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist I

Classification: Non-Exempt

Reports To: EHS Manager

Job Description

This is an entry-level technical environmental health and safety (EHS) position conducting EHS investigations and inspections, identifying responsible parties, recommending corrective action and conducting follow-up of compliance issues to expedite compliance with the Parker Offshore team. Performs EHS fieldwork to maintain regulatory compliance standards, investigates issues around the facility.

Key Responsibilities

· Design and implement frameworks for risk management and monitoring

· Manage change regarding organization-wide initiatives

· Research and strategize emerging and complex risks

· Collaborate across the business on varying initiatives, even those seemingly unrelated to safety

· Development and maintenance of an annual inspection schedule, conducting inspections of Parker Offshore facilities which may be in confined, awkward, difficult to reach areas, and responding to and conducting incident investigations.

· Conducting timely submittal of inspection and incident investigation reports, performing efficient and effective records management and participating in training sessions.

· Using effective oral and written communication, computer word processing and spreadsheet programs, and participating in development of safety policies. Promoting the Parker Offshore EHS policies and plans.

· Performs inspections around the facility.

· Investigates non-compliance issues around facility and documents investigations, maintains related records and prepares reports as required.

· Drafts letters based on inspection results and review of reports.

· Investigate and maintain records for all work-related injuries and/or illnesses, provide statistical analysis, and assist department management in the development of effective health and safety countermeasures to continuously improve safety objectives.

· Assist in the development of environmental and safety training programs.

· Maintain filing systems regarding worker training, safety and environmental records.

· Assist in the development of environmental compliance programs related to hazardous waste, air permitting, storm water, waste water, etc.

· Assist with updating procedures for emergency situations by establishing medical response programs, site preparedness, and emergency plans.

· Occasionally, they drive employees to the clinic or hospital.

· Storage Tank Compliance Conducts inspections of petroleum and resin storage tanks, including a physical inspection, examining required records, and determining facility compliance with Chapter 62-761 and 62-762 Florida Administrative Code.

· Compliance & Waste Management Performs a variety of EHS related inspections including hazardous waste, and others related to EHS.

· NPDES Conducts field inspections regarding our industrial facility site storm water. Reviews, monitoring reports and pollution prevention plans.

· Training & Outreach Research, develops, and prepares presentations for New Hires, weekly Safety Toolbox topics and any EHS outreach programs. Performs a variety of public relations speaking events/presentations to disseminate information on Parker Offshore EHS policies. Conducts research projects for Parker Offshore on varied topics as needed.

· Compliance Activities Performs environmental sampling and/or analysis of drinking water, wastewater, groundwater, and soil. Sampling occasionally performs in difficult conditions and inclement weather. Operates pumps, boats, trucks, field equipment and laboratory instrumentation. Ensures that sampling methodologies and analytical techniques comply with SOPs. Performs instrument calibration. Required to participate in periodic emergency response duty.

· All other duties as assigned.

Skills and abilities for success in this position:

· Must be able to perform job related tasks, which would include but not be limited to: climbing, walking over uneven ground, exposure to dust and toxic fumes, and exposure to adverse weather.

· Must possess and maintain professional safety certification from a nationally or locally recognized safety organization within 1 year of hire date.

· Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR part 1910 and 1926 regulations

· Knowledge of NFPA 70 E regulations

· Experience with Title V air permits and emission calculations

· Knowledge of RCRA and DOT regulations

· Problem-solving skills.

· Proficiencies in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point

· Self-confidence and presentation skills to address employees about safety.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Regular and punctual attendance.

· Maintain a positive work atmosphere and interaction with customers, co-workers, and management.

· Ability to work independently

· Advanced time management skills

· Ability to handle emergency situations calmly.

Education and/or Experience

· Requires at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, the natural sciences, engineering or a related field.

· Prefer ASP, CSP, or COSM or IH certification.

· Prior experience with safety procedures in a manufacturing environment with such experience gained through work and or study. Experience in a multi-site manufacturing organization and experience with environmental compliance management are pluses.

· Experience with Spill Response and OSHA HAZWOPER

· Experience with Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP)

· Must have a valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements

· Must be able to work in non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air temperature.

· Must be able to bend at waist and knees and stand for extended periods of time.

· Must be able to lift 25 pounds when necessary.

· Must be able to walk over long distances

· This is a safety sensitive position.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions, normal office environment or factory environment that is not climate controlled. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The factory in certain areas maintains a high fiberglass and dust environment.

Personal Protective Equipment might be required in certain areas of the factory including but not limited to safety glasses, respirator, hearing protection, gloves and protective garments.

Employees in safety-sensitive positions must report to work fit for duty and must remain fit for duty throughout their workday. To be fit for duty, the employee must not be impaired by alcohol, illicit drugs, or medication.
