As a Safety Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with company, federal, and state safety regulations. You will be dedicated to efficiently addressing drivers' needs within a proactive safety framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive training sessions offered by the Safety Department, including hands-on simulator training.
  • Perform a range of safety functions, such as accident reviews, annual safety evaluations, and remedial training.
  • Administer drug tests and breath alcohol tests (BAT).
  • Utilize AS-400 systems, Microsoft Office, Computer Based Training (CBT) systems, and L3 simulators effectively.
  • Provide 24-hour on-call support as required by the Terminal Manager.
  • Counsel drivers on DOT violations and company policy breaches.
  • Conduct road tests and evaluations to assess driver safety and compliance with regulations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill in performing pre-trip inspections.
  • Execute additional duties as assigned by supervisory personnel.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional understanding of policies, procedures, and new driver orientation methodologies.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal regulations and company policies.
  • Understanding of federal and state traffic laws related to tractor/trailer operations.
  • Proficient in operating a semi-truck and trailer.
  • Outstanding listening and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent presentation skills in educational settings.
  • Strong customer service skills and a team-oriented mindset.
  • Capability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Courteous and professional communication skills.
  • Competent in using computers and office equipment.
  • Flexible with work hours and self-motivated with attention to detail.
  • Skilled in acclimating and orienting drivers to their new roles.
  • Minimal travel may be required.
  • Able to provide in-cab counseling effectively.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • College education preferred.
  • Experience in public speaking or adult education is advantageous.
  • Background in transportation safety and possession of a Class A CDL preferred.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in a Safety Specialist or similar role is preferred.
