Environment, Health and Safety Manager

The EHS Manager is responsible for leading and managing all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs within a food manufacturing facility, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Sanitation, HR, and Leadership to promote a strong safety culture while supporting continuous improvement, regulatory compliance, and employee well-being in a cold-environment, high-volume production setting.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA 300/300A/301 logs, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements
  • Lead risk assessments, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and hazard identification
  • Manage Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space, Hot Work, PPE, Fall Protection, and Machine Guarding programs
  • Oversee cold-environment safety risks (slip hazards, freezer operations, PPE, ergonomics)
  • Coordinate inspections, audits, and emergency preparedness related to ammonia systems
  • Partner with Maintenance and external vendors on compliance, training, and emergency response
  • Lead new-hire safety orientation and ongoing refresher training
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through coaching, engagement, and accountability
  • Support leadership in safety observations, toolbox talks, and safety KPIs
  • Ensure compliance with waste management, hazardous materials, chemical storage, and environmental permits
  • Maintain SDS libraries and chemical approval processes
  • Support internal and external regulatory audits and inspections
  • Prepare and present safety reports to leadership
  • Support corporate EHS initiatives and standardization across facilities

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of EHS experience in food manufacturing, dairy, frozen foods, or CPG manufacturing
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, FDA, and state safety regulations
  • Experience with cold storage/freezer operations and production environments
  • Proven experience leading audits, inspections, and corrective actions
  • Strong communication, training, and leadership skills
