Environment, Health and Safety Manager

This is a operational HSE leadership role for someone who is credible on site, trusted by operational teams, and able to turn governance into real-world performance.
You’ll lead Health, Safety and Environmental management across multi-site anaerobic Digestion (AD) operations, working closely with site leadership to align day-to-day delivery with group standards, policies and permits.

What the role will do
You’ll lead, implement and continuously improve HSE management systems across the business, ensuring full compliance with legislation, environmental permits and best practice, while driving a proactive safety and environmental culture.
You’ll also lead a multi-site team of SHEQ Advisors, providing clear direction, coaching and consistency across all AD plants.
Key responsibilities
Health & Safety
- Lead ISO 45001 H&S management systems
- Own risk assessments, HAZOPs and Safe Systems of Work
- Lead audits, inspections and incident investigations
- Deliver H&S training and toolbox talks
- Track KPIs and report performance to senior leadership
- Ensure emergency response and business continuity plans are robust and understood
Environmental
- Maintain compliance with environmental permits and licences
- Manage monitoring programmes (emissions, odour, digestate, waste, noise)
- Lead environmental incident investigations
- Drive improvements in energy efficiency, waste reduction and carbon performance
- Manage relationships with the Environment Agency and regulators
- Support ISO 14001 and sustainability initiatives
Leadership & Governance
- Lead, develop and performance-manage SHEQ Advisors across sites
- Ensure consistent application of SHEQ standards
- Oversee contractor and visitor compliance
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and records
- Represent HSE at senior management level
What you’ll bring
- NEBOSH Diploma (Level 6)
- Chartered IOSH (or working towards)
- Senior HSE / SHEQ leadership experience within one or more of the following:
- Anaerobic Digestion / Biogas
- Renewable Energy
- Utilities
- Process, manufacturing or high-risk industrial environments
- Proven multi-site responsibility
- Strong knowledge of UK H&S and environmental legislation
- Hands-on experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
- A pragmatic, solutions-led approach and the confidence to influence at all levels
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel
