About the Role

Scudder Roofing & Solar is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead and strengthen our safety program across roofing and solar operations. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving company-wide safety initiatives while ensuring compliance with Cal/OSHA, OSHA, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

This role serves as the company’s primary safety authority and works directly with the CEO, while partnering closely with Human Resources and Operations to promote a proactive, accountable, and values-driven safety culture across all worksites.

This position is designated as safety-sensitive.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Programs & Compliance

  • Develop, implement, enforce, and improve all safety programs, including, but not limited to:
  • Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP)
  • Heat Illness Prevention (HIPP)
  • Fall Protection
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Workplace Violence Prevention
  • Fleet Safety
  • Emergency Response
  • Hazard Communication
  • Workers Comp
  • Ensure programs are current, job-specific, and consistently applied across operations
  • Conduct and document jobsite inspections, audits, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs)
  • Serve as company representative during Cal/OSHA inspections and regulatory interactions
  • Track and report safety performance metrics and trends to the CEO

Training & Employee Development

  • Develop and deliver bilingual (English/Spanish) safety training
  • Provide training during new hire orientation, job changes, incident follow-up, and regulatory requirements
  • Coach foremen, supervisors, and employees on safe work practices and compliance
  • Maintain complete and compliant training documentation

Incident Management & Workers’ Compensation

  • Lead investigations for injuries, illnesses, near misses, and property damage
  • Ensure timely workers’ compensation reporting
  • Partner with HR on return-to-work programs, modified duty, accommodations, and reinstatement
  • Identify root causes and implement corrective/preventive actions

Leadership & Safety Culture

  • Lead the Safety Committee and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Provide safety-related feedback and recommendations to leadership
  • Apply a coaching approach to documentation and corrective action
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Align safety initiatives with company ethics, culture, and core values

Qualifications

Required

  • 3-5years of safety management experience, roofing, solar, or construction preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Cal/OSHA Title 8 regulations
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification
  • Proven ability to build and enforce effective safety programs
  • Experience training and holding teams accountable
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)
  • First Aid/CPR/AED Trainer certification

Preferred

  • CHST, CSP, or ASP certification

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong follow-through
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively across teams and departments
  • Comfortable working independently and exercising authority
  • Proficient with:
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Google Workspace

Work Environment

  • 80% active jobsites / 20% office
  • Frequent exposure to outdoor conditions, heights, noise, dust, and construction hazards
  • Travel required approximately 80% of the time to local worksites
  • Flexible schedule required to support training, inspections, and incident response

Physical Requirements

This is a safety-sensitive role requiring the ability to:

  • Walk uneven terrain on construction sites
  • Climb ladders/scaffolding and access rooftops at varying heights
  • Maintain balance near unprotected edges
  • Bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach overhead
  • Lift/carry up to 50 lbs
  • Wear PPE including fall protection equipment
  • Identify hazards visually and respond quickly in emergency situations
  • Work in high-heat and variable weather environments

Hands-on physical participation is required for training purposes.

This position may require post-offer and periodic fit-for-duty, drug testing, MVR clearance, background check per company policy and applicable law.
