Purpose of the Job

Member of the Regional APMEA Strategic Planning, Performance and Sustainability Leadership team and Advisor to Regional Leadership Team and Regional Segment Heads on HSE issues

Regional contact point and coordinator for technical HSE issues for technical issues with Sodexo clients and other stakeholders.

To ensure the continued development and maturity of Sodexo Safety Culture and Safe Behaviors by demonstrating safety leadership behaviors and embedding the Group ‘3 Checks for safety’ initiatives.

Ensure the implementation of the APAC Health and Safety Processes across all sites, to include Food Safety HACCP program.

Lead the strategic planning for the APAC region, developing regional and where required country Safety Improvement Plans and monitoring progress against them.

Context and main issues

  • Ensuring the competency of the country HSE teams in terms of correct skill set is achieved to support HSE requirements for the growing business.
  • Supporting the business by the contribution to Bid preparation, client and other stakeholder meetings.
  • Representing Sodexo APAC at local / Regional events as required.
  • Ensuring that APAC systems are embedded across the region, standardizing ways of working whilst respecting territory and cultural needs and where necessary aligned to the segment / clients so that clear direction is given.
  • Collaborating with the regional segments and transversal functions to ensure consistency of HSE implementation across the region.
  • Developing and leading the country strategy for the reduction of accidents and illnesses at work in accordance with the Group annual reduction targets.

Main assignments

  • Set the regional HSE strategy based on the global HSE framework.
  • To work closely with the APAC HSE Territory Directors across the region to ensure alignment of HSE processes, ways of working and key initiatives to support the Global and Regional HSE strategies, in the form of an annual Safety Improvement Plan.
  • Ensure the structure and competencies of the APMEA Strategic Planning, Performance and Sustainability HSE team is appropriate to support the business in terms of HSE requirements for service delivery and growth.
  • Manage the document control process for the HSE department, ensuring documents are filed as required by the HSE management system and key documents are archived for the required time period.
  • Lead Sodexo’s behavioral safety program for the region driving safety awareness and culture change, to instill a ‘zero accident’ mindset across our teams – giving ownership and opportunity to influence.
  • Review the annual audit plans for the territories and provide benchmarking of HSE ranking, gaps and areas of improvement.
  • Provide timely and tailored reports to the RLC on HSE performance for the APAC region and for segments, identifying key areas as required.
  • Continue to develop and improve effective management and management information systems to ensure that lessons are understood and shared from all major HSE incidents in the region and are escalated and acted on as required.
  • Maintain a regional view of the most significant HSE risks and represent these at Regional APMEA Strategic Planning, Performance and Sustainability level.
  • Encourage the reporting of Near-miss events and Safety Observations and ensure actions are taken where required.
  • Ensure all safety related incidents are investigated in a timely manner and that continuous improvement initiatives are driven following incidents.
  • Develop and implement strategies to prevent and minimize workplace fatality, injury, disease and ill health
  • Develop skills within the HSE team to support sites in the creation of Business Continuity Plans. Implement a programmed to test Business Continuity Plans on a regional and territory basis.
  • Contribute to Crisis Management for the region updating Crisis Management Plans as required and collaborating with the Regional Communications Director
  • Support business growth by contributing to Bid documents and presentations, ensuring that realistic H&S solutions are included.
  • Work with procurement teams to standardize PPE purchase across the region reviewing as required.
  • Manage the APAC HSE budget at regional and territory level.
  • Review training needs of the HSE team to support career development and succession planning
  • Support the attainments of ISO certifications as required both at Country and Regional level.

  • To communicate the Global/ Regional HSE vision and APMEA Strategic Planning, Performance and Sustainability HSE Mission
  • Take every opportunity to communicate about HSE to raise awareness of HSE issues and to learn about the most significant hazards that people are exposed to.
  • Communicate the regional HSE plans and performance, serious incidents, best practices and lessons learned, supporting operational teams take ownership of safety.

Training & Competence

  • Provide/follow HSE information, instruction, supervision and training in safe work methods including; health, safety, food safety; environment; site rules; SOPs; HSE induction.
  • Agree HSE responsibilities of direct reports and assure their competence.

Compliance & Learning

  • Assess/Understand HSE hazards and risks of work tasks
  • Encourage an open reporting culture including upward reporting of HSE issues to Regional HSE as appropriate.
  • Assure Sodexo standard procedures, systems and tools are deployed in the region
  • Monitor HSE performance (i.e. Country segment risks, HSE Audits, improvement actions and outcomes)
  • Take/follow actions to eliminate or control HSE risks including;
  • Enforce/follow all safety rules, provide/wear PPE.
  • Report/investigate all HSE incidents
  • Share/learn lessons from incidents

Person Specification

Essential

  • National HSE qualification to degree level or equivalent
  • Good organizational / communication skills with excellent operations / client management experience
  • Ability to analyze complex information and produce concise reports
  • Ability to priorities work to tight deadlines, both prescribed and self-imposed
  • Food Safety Qualification
  • Business Continuity experience
  • ISO certification & Quality Systems
  • Environmental Management qualification of experience
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships at all levels
