Position Description
Position Title: Health and Safety Coordinator FLSA Status : Non-Exempt
Department: Human Resources
Position Reports to: Human Resources Manager/Maintenance Manager
Purpose of Position: The Safety & Health Coordinator will assist with the development and implementation of safety programs to promote a safe work environment by prevention and correction of unsafe conditions, and unsafe behavior under the direction of the Human Resources Manager and Maintenance Manager. The position requires an understanding of EHS regulatory compliance in regards to manufacturing and warehouse safety, Process Safety Management, safety audits, employee training, and worker’s compensation.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Evaluate and coordinate compliance in the areas of safety, health and environmental regulations, under the direction of the Human Resources Manager.
- Assist with the development, update and maintenance of Health and Safety programs, procedures and training curriculum. Safety programs include but not limited to LOTO, HAZ-Com, Confined Space, Walking & Working Surfaces, Ergonomics, Security, etc.
- Administer and track Alchemy training system, annual safety training calendar, monthly tailgate meeting topics, Alchemy Coach behavior observations, etc.
- Track and maintain safety key indicators (i.e. safety score card, OSHA frequency, plant safety metrics).
- Facilitate and coordinate accident / incident investigations. Manage corrective actions, follow-through and sustaining of corrective action measures.
- Conduct weekly/monthly inspections of fire extinguishers, emergency lights and eye wash/shower stations.
- Maintain and coordinate annual hearing conservation program to include annual audio metric testing.
- Chair safety committee, publish monthly agenda and safety meeting minutes. Maintain Safety communication board.
- Maintain OSHA300 log, Accident Reports, and track modified / lost work days,
- Provide active communication and EH&S activity reports and day-to-day facility EHS facility issues. Maintain and distribute daily safety tracker.
- Conduct routine safety plant audits, report deficiencies and corrective actions.
- Interface with regulatory agencies and outside vendors as necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Oversee Emergency Response program, coordinate communication during emergency response situations or drills, conduct and coordinate periodic drills and report out on results.
- Work with maintenance regarding Process Safety Management initiatives and maintenance regulatory compliance programs i.e. Hot Works, Electrical Safety, Welding, Grinding and Hand Tool safety, etc.
- Participate and conduct Job Safety Analysis.
- Coordinate CPR, First Aid and AED training.
- Respond to work related injuries/illnesses, coordinate medical care and provide communication to Occupational Medical Clinic.
- Assist with administration of Worker’s Comp Claims and administer Return to Work program.
- Maintain daily plant presence and address employee safety issues, coach as necessary
- Administer Safety incentive programs.
- Provide support to all departments, enforce plant policies,
- Assist or lead projects as necessary.
- All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Health & Safety Management, Environmental Management, Industrial Hygiene or Risk Management preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of increasing experience in an industrial manufacturing setting, preferably in food manufacturing, with responsibilities in environment, health & safety.
- Knowledge of OSHA and Environmental regulatory compliance.
- Must have excellent communication skills (verbal, written and listening) and interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual Spanish/English required.
- Strong computer skills; knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Power Point).
- Must be able to work autonomously and be a self- motivator.
- Must be able to prioritize and follow-through with projects.
- Ability and interpret written material, including technical information, rules, regulations, safety and environmental laws; conduct test and inspect work areas, machinery, equipment and work conditions for compliance with occupational health &safety regulations.
- Must have leadership qualities. Ability to train and instruct employees.
- Strong team player with ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule and support a multi-shift operation.
- Must have predictable and reliable attendance.
Physical Demands (Walking, lifting, equipment, operation)
- Must be able to work in a refrigerated environment and an office setting
- Sit at a computer terminal, stand, walk and occasionally climb stairs and elevated surfaces.
- Forklift experience is a plus.
- Lift up to 25 lbs., grasp and reach with hands and arms
- Wear PPE as required

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
