Primary Duties And Responsibilities

The Safety and Disaster Coordinator will coordinate, develop, and maintain the Safety and Emergency Management programs from an all-hazard approach for Hoag Hospital and its affiliates.

The Safety & Disaster Coordinator will ensure Hoag Hospital, and its affiliates are in continuous compliance with city, state, and federal requirements and regulations and will coordinate applicable department education as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and oversees the coordination of meeting agendas and minutes for the Emergency Management Committee, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Develops and implements strategic initiatives for safety and facilities rounds, identifying and addressing potential risks proactively.
  • Designs and leads training programs focused on safe work practices, ensuring compliance with industry standards and fostering a culture of safety.
  • Analyzes incident data to identify trends, root causes, and potential hazards, implementing corrective action plans to mitigate risks.
  • Directs the development, review, and execution of safety and emergency/disaster training programs, ensuring staff preparedness and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversees the annual review and revision of all safety and emergency management plans, policies, and procedures to enhance effectiveness and compliance.
  • Leads the coordination and facilitation of safety training sessions and emergency/disaster drills, ensuring organizational readiness.
  • Manages disaster equipment and supply inventories, ensuring availability and proper maintenance for emergency response.
  • Oversees the scheduling of hazardous waste pickups and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements across all Hoag facilities.
  • Directs the maintenance and processing of new EPA ID applications for Hoag facilities, ensuring adherence to environmental regulations.
  • Establishes and maintains a robust hazardous waste manifest tracking system to ensure compliance and accountability.
  • Leads hazardous waste reporting efforts, ensuring accuracy and timely submission of required documentation. Oversees response efforts to hazardous waste spills, ensuring swift and effective containment and remediation.
  • Provides strategic guidance on safety, emergency preparedness, and regulatory compliance initiatives, continuously improving organizational safety culture.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

High School Graduate or equivalent required. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, plus healthcare database systems required.

Minimum of three years' experience in at least three of the areas: healthcare, facility coordination, project management, fire, safety, industrial hygiene/hazardous materials, emergency management, sustainability. Knowledge of applicable DNV, licensing, city, state, federal regulatory standards and requirements, including but not limited to NFPA, NIOSH, ANSI, DTSC/EPA, Cal-OSHA, fed-OSHA, CCR Titles 8, 22, and 26. Experience in adult education and training programs
