- *Job Summary**
The primary role of this position is to provide HSE guidance and support to the site. The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance and continuous improvement of the IPEX HSE Management System. This system consists of a number of elements including but not limited to Energy Control, Machine Guarding, Ergonomics, Manual handling, Job Hazard Analysis and Working at Heights. The incumbent will also support the achievement of the site’s HSE KPIs, Worker’s compensation claims and provide HSE training on specific elements to employees.
This is a hands-on position and the incumbent will be expected to develop many different types of documents, procedures, training material and work instructions. The person is expected to be regularly on the plant floor for safety observations, assist the supervisors, identify hazardous tasks and assist in developing effective safe work practices. It is expected that the person taking on this role will, with the support and mentorship from the Corporate HSE, gain the knowledge required to fulfill the requirements of the position.
- *Principal Responsibilities**
- Maintain and build IPEX HSE Management System documents including but not limited to policies and procedures, work instructions, training plans and information postings.
- Complete environmental reports as required by the Corporate HSE Department.
- Handle the worker’s compensation and return to work programs. Provide documents and direction to supervisors and managers regarding claims management. Maintain chronology for each case.
- Prepare Safety talks and training materials.
- Prepare HSE presentations and training materials for employee meetings and maintain records.
- Maintain the schedule for planned inspections (PCE Tours). Co-ordinate documentation of planned inspections and maintain documents.
- Participate in JHSC meetings; maintain minutes, action items and any other related documents.
- Prepare monthly report on HSE system status, First Aids, Accident/Incidents JHSC activities.
- Perform review and update of all Accident/Incident investigations following the supervisors’ initial investigation. Maintain action item list, file investigations, complete and submit forms to worker compensation company, maintain and submit monthly safety statistics.
- Monitor use of Hazard reporting systems
- Monitor use of hot work program.
- Maintain SDS books and Hazardous material inventory
- Co-ordinate Fire Drills and evaluate efficiency
- Maintain contractor lists and qualification.
- Participate in Internal audits
- Participate in new hire orientations
- Balance time between time in plant and related environments (40%) requiring varying degrees of moderate physical labor.
- *Requirements**:
- *Qualifications & Experience**
- Community College Diploma minimum
- Recognized formal training in one of: Health and Safety, Human Resources, or Environmental studies.
- Minimum 3 years of Health and Safety experience in a unionized manufacturing environment, preferably in the plastic industry.
- Must be adaptable and able to gain knowledge required to perform functions in a professional manner.
- Strong communication skills - experience in training, giving presentations and writing reports.
- Strong computer skills and technical proficiency.
- Must understand, respect and adhere to workplace health, safety and environment rules and regulations.
