Description

  • *Title**:Health & Safety Assistant
  • *Reports to**:Environmental H&S Operations Manager
  • *Location**:24 Napoleon Road, Barrie
  • *Job Purpose**:To provide administrative support to the Environmental Health & Safety Team for WSIB Claims, Early Safe Return to Work, Incident tracking and trending, Training, the JHSC and the Safety Program and environmental regulatory reports and programs.
  • *Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities**:

WSIB Claims Management - Prepare/fax Form 7's, Form 42's; management of claims in spreadsheet; co-manage associates on modified duties; telephone and written communication with WSIB; recording, following up and filing of WSIB correspondence and forms. Scanning/filing of WSIB statements- Incident Report data entry - Management of H&S database and tracking of corrective action and trends identification; auditing corrective action on production floor; scanning reports to temporary agency; filing. Data management and filing of associate Comfort Survey (modified duties) and updating associate files.-

  • Training Support - Entering H&S training records into HRIS for H&S and Operations Trainer; printing, laminating, scanning and uploading documents into the HRIS; maintenance of first aid training lists by building, laminating and posting certificates in First Aid rooms. Training record management.-
  • Miscellaneous Tasks - Drafting bulletins; online research; communication with vendors re. PPE; creation of ESRTW Packages; audit First Aid rooms inventory (AEDs, packages, forms, certificates, supplies); preparation of Purchase Requisitions; photocopying; Orientation support re. charging, packing, cleaning and unpacking tour headsets/transmitters; maintenance of MOL and WSIB NEER binders, assist with environmental regulatory reports, assist with setting-up and taking down Safety Week promotional areas and creating and monitor Health and Safety contests, etc. Maintaining MSDS database. HWIN management. Create weekly 9-Panel report and monthly relative safety index. Create, update and maintenance of SOPs and SOP spreadsheet.- Support Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Type and post the minutes and inspections on the JHC boards. Type and monitor the PPE audits and assist members with inspections. CAR and NCR system management.
  • *Education and Experience**:
  • Secondary School Diploma required. 1-2 years college level courses relating to administration, business, etc., an asset.
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience working in an administrative capacity.
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
  • Practical knowledge of Workplace Safety and Insurance Act
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Requirement to adhere to strict timelines for WSIB claims, and entering Incident Reports.
  • A self-starter who works independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with associates and WSIB contacts.
