Northern Gold Foods is a well established, leading manufacturer of a wide range of healthy and great tasting breakfast and snack food products. With roots dating back to 1978, Northern Gold Foods now has production facilities located in British Columbia, Ontario and Oregon. We our currently seeking a full time **Food Safety Manager **to join our team in Welland. The Food Safety Manager coordinates and leads all aspects of our Quality Control programs, ensuring that the products we manufacture meet all associated regulatory and customer requirements. **ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**: GENERAL SUPERVISION OF ROUTINE QC AND PRODUCTION ACTIVITIES - Monitor production lines to ensure products being manufactured are within all specs - Direct interaction with production supervisors, managers and quality staff to ensure identified QC related issues are effectively resolved - Troubleshooting non-conformities and offering advice and assistance - Managing, scheduling and training QC staff members - Working as part of the management team regarding production scheduling, troubleshooting, reporting non-conformities and attending and/or scheduling meetings. QC RECORD MAINTENANCE AND VERIFICATION - Verification of QC, Production and Sanitation data - Organizing data entry and paperwork, including customer reporting, filing and retention - Review and verification of preventive controls and CCP POSITIVE RELEASE - Manage hold and release of finished products, completing positive release and customer specific release - Submit 3rd party lab and customer samples. Manage, review and approve lab reports and results. Communicating with 3rd party lab - Issuing and approving Certificates of Analysis to Maintaining all associated documentation. GENERAL LAB DUTIES, CALIBRATIONS - Inventory management of QC, lab supplies and PO issuance and approval - Ensuring the lab is kept clean and tidy and lab cleaning schedules are being met - Manage and schedule all lab and plant equipment calibrations within the defined PEST CONTROL - Manage all aspects of pest control program. Meeting with PC contractor, upkeep of documentation and pest control binder, reviewing weekly inspections, internal auditing, and executing - Scheduling and participation of weekly plant and warehouse self-inspections focused on pest control SANITATION - Manage all aspects of sanitation program, including Chemical Control, Master Cleaning Schedule, ATP and allergen swabbing, procedures, validations and training - Executing sanitation and allergen validations when required and maintaining - Maintaining inventory of sanitation chemicals, and scheduling calibrations and cleaning of sanitation equipment ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM - Manage all aspects of environmental program, including water testing, swabbing schedule, and air monitoring EMPLOYEE TRAINING - Participate in QC proficiency, HACCP, GMP, PC, Allergen and Sanitation Organizing training records - Participating in external and internal training opportunities - FSMA (PCQI), HACCP, internal auditing AUDITS - Participate in all plant 2nd and 3rd party audits including BRC, AIB, Organic, GFCO and Customer - Participate in regulatory audits - FDA, CFIA, Health Authorities - Lead and execute self-inspection program - Execute internal audits as required - Keep plant "audit ready" through daily GMP inspections RECALL - Member of Recall Team. Assist in mock recalls and act as an alternate to Technical Coordinator. HACCP/FOOD SAFETY PLAN - HACCP Team Member and Facility on-site PCQI - Assist QM director with modification of HACCP plans, perform risk assessments and internal audits. - Participate in annual HACCP training - Manage Corrective Action program, trend and root cause analysis, investigate complaints, etc. FOREIGN MATERIAL PROGRAM - Manage and lead the foreign material program in compliance with BRC standards - Managing foreign material detection equipment set up, training, calibration and troubleshooting - Respond to and investigate foreign material concerns and complaints **ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS**: - A University degree in Food Science or related field, or equivalent. - PCQI and HACCP certified or willing and able to obtain. - At least 3 years of proven supervisory experience. - At least 1 years of experience in a food manufacturing facility regulated by the FDA. - Strong computer and organizational skills; working knowledge of MS Office. - Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. **PHYSICAL DEMANDS** - Activities include walking, kneeling, lifting, climbing ladders and stairs, bending, stacking, twisting, pulling, pushing, inserting, sitting, squatting, standing, accumulating and collating motions. - Be able to handle 50# of material with assistance occasionally. **To apply**: **Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent **Benefits**: - Dental care - Disability insurance - Extended health care - Life insurance - On-site parking - Paid time off - Vision care Schedule: - Monday to Friday -
