Position Overview

The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining policies and procedures that ensure a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant workplace. This critical role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining EHS programs that ensure regulatory compliance, reduce risk, and promote a proactive safety culture. The EHS Coordinator collaborates with leadership and operational teams to drive continuous improvement in safety performance and environmental stewardship.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS programs and policies to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies and ensure timely reporting and documentation.
  • Build and manage internal safety training programs and assign external certifications (e.g., OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR).
  • Track all safety training completions and maintain accurate certification records.
  • Establish and execute audit processes for safety equipment, procedures, and facility compliance.
  • Conduct risk assessments and validate that all necessary protective equipment is in place.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action planning.
  • Monitor and report EHS performance metrics and KPIs; recommend improvements to reduce risk and enhance safety culture.
  • Develop and implement company-wide safety metrics and targets aligned with strategic goals.
  • Participate in monthly safety committee meetings and facility audits.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS considerations into operational planning and decision-making.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through leadership, communication, and employee engagement.
  • Attend safety and insurance conferences to identify best practices and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Own procurement and distribution of PPE, safety gear and uniforms.
  • Stay current with evolving EHS regulations, trends, and industry standards.
  • Review and update safety policies and procedures regularly to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
  • Develop emergency response plans and coordinate drills (fire, chemical spill, active shooter) to ensure preparedness.
  • Manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure accessibility and compliance with chemical safety regulations.
  • Create and facilitate employee safety recognition programs to encourage proactive safety behavior.
  • Coordinate industrial hygiene assessments (noise, air quality) and implement corrective actions.
  • Help maintain and analyze incident logs to identify trends and develop targeted prevention strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or OSHA 30/40-hour training are highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 2 year’s experience in EHS management, preferably in logistics, distribution, rail, intermodal, or distribution operations environments.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, DOT, EPA).
  • Experience with incident investigation, risk assessment, and safety audits.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and training skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and influence safety culture.

Additional Requirements

  • Must wear approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required including, but not limited to; steel/composite-toe, slip resistant, work shoes, reflective vest, etc.
  • Must be willing to work additional hours as required or requested.
  • Available for questions and problem resolution outside of the standard business hours.
  • Requires 25%-40% travel to all operating locations and HQ.
