Regional Safety, Health and Environmental Manager
About the Role
This position oversees occupational safety management at assigned branch locations, implementing and adhering to safety policies and programs, and communicating safety issues to the National Safety Director and/or VP of Safety and Risk Management.
Responsibilities
- Prepare reports to improve organizational performance
- Oversee safety protocols at individual branches within their geographical area
- Conduct PC safety compliance inspections and audits
- Work with Branch Managers to assign Safety Coordinators
- Provide training and guidance to Safety Coordinators
- Identify deficiencies during inspections and provide corrective action requirements
- Deliver safety training modules to employees
- Assist Branch Safety Coordinators with required training and safety meeting coordination
- Track and trend Branches' performance to identify areas needing attention
- Develop an annual strategic SH&E Business Plan with Regional Vice Presidents
- Distribute weekly reports describing injuries, VIRs, near misses, and trends in the Region
- Lead monthly Safety Coordinator Phone Call and develop agenda for the annual Safety Coordinator Boot Camp
- Train and monitor staff on Behavior Based Safety Tools
- Support BMs and Safety Coordinators in incident investigations and reporting
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related field
- Minimum 5 years working with Safety, Health and Environmental Management Systems
- Preferred Safety Certification - OHST, CHST, SMS, GSP
- Good written and verbal skills when addressing individuals or groups
- Ability to present information in classroom or conference call settings
- Ability to develop and execute a strategic plan with measurable goals
- An observable positive attitude
- Ability to track and trend performance of multiple locations
- Dependable, motivated, and self-starter
- Customer-service oriented
- Ability and willingness to travel; overnight travel required
- General overview of OSHA construction and general industry regulation knowledge
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation safety
- An ability to foster credibility with PC Supervisors, Safety Coordinators, and PCMs
- Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
Physical Demands
Must be able to bend, squat, crouch, reach and lift up to 25 pounds or more. Some jobs may require driving for long periods of time, loading and unloading heavy equipment, performing work in extreme weather conditions.
