  • *Position Overview**:

Reporting to the Director, Safety, the SMS Investigator will support the continuous improvement of safety within Flair including, conducting investigations related to safety occurrences and incidents involving operations, compliance with Safety Management System (SMS) policies, procedures, and risk controls. The SMS Investigator will monitor and report on the implementation of strategies, initiatives, and best practices, as directed by the Director, Safety and Senior Safety Systems Manager, and will play a role in incident investigations and subsequent mitigation strategies. Your expertise and attention to detail will play a crucial role in promoting a proactive safety culture and enhancing the overall safety performance of the organization.

  • *Primary Job Functions**:

The duties of the **SMS Investigator **include

  • Conduct comprehensive investigations into safety occurrences and incidents related to Flair operations
  • Utilize Safety related data to identify trends, patterns, and potential hazards in Flair operations
  • Conduct research to stay up to date on industry best practices, safety regulations, and emerging safety issues
  • Monitor and report on the implementation of programs and procedures to mitigate Crew member and Non-Crew Member incidents. Ensure all investigations are carried out in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements
  • Conduct risk assessment of potential operational hazards
  • Formulating effective controls to mitigate identified hazards
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the SMS by providing valuable feedback, participating in safety-related meetings, and proposing process enhancements
  • Serve as a liaison between all Departments and the Safety Department
  • Promote safety awareness among all staff
  • Assisting in root cause analysis and the development of corrective actions to enhance operational safety performance
  • Initiating and evaluating submitted Safety Cases
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director, Safety and the Senior Manager Safety Systems
  • *Qualifications & Requirements**:
  • ** Education**:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Safety, Aeronautical Science or a related field preferred
  • ** Experience**:
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in conducting safety investigations and risk assessments within the aviation industry
  • Three (3) years of experience within a CARs 705 and/or CARs 573 environment.
  • Experience within Flight Operations is an asset
  • Knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and associated principles
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify safety trends
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to interact with various stakeholders at all levels effectively
  • Detail oriented with a focus on accuracy in documentation and reporting
  • Familiarity with relevant aviation regulations, standards, and best practices
  • ** Skills & Abilities**:

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders

  • Demonstrated proficiency in problem-solving and making decisions based on data analysis
  • Able to work variable hours, flexible shifts, including holidays and weekends
  • Availability for occasional travel as required

  • Clear criminal record check and satisfactory employment references
