The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (KPR) offers a world-class
education for approximately 34,000 students in 87 schools. Spanning over 7,000
square kilometers, across diverse rural and urban communities in southeastern
Ontario, KPR serves the Municipality of Clarington, Northumberland and
Peterborough Counties, and City of Quinte West/Murray Ward.

for the full-time position of Human Resources Manager, Employee Health Services.
The purpose of the Human Resources
Manager, Health & Safety is to provide effective leadership and
implement strategic goals of the Board’s Health and Safety programs. The position focuses on the Board’s
Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) and support the
Board’s departments with Program Safety.
This position requires the highest degree
of confidentiality and discretion as the duties involve working directly with
various stakeholders and information, both internal and external to the Board,
regarding highly sensitive and personal matters.
This
position reports to the Senior Manager, Human Resources Services
- *MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Manage the day-to-day operations and direct supervision of the Board’s Occupational Health and Safety Program, ensuring roles and responsibilities are understood and performance objectives are met.
Supports the various departments of the Board when implementing Program Safety.
Advice Senior management on statistics and health & safety related trends.
Audit the effectiveness of Occupational Health and Safety programming, identify key issues and make recommendations for revisions and improvements, based on legislation, industry standards, best practices, current and emerging trends, and overall system needs.
Lead all incident safety investigations by working with managers, principals, human resource staff, and operational departments in the preparation of injury and incident investigation reports, determining root cause analysis, corrective actions and follow up as required.
Oversee the coordination of responses to critical injuries/incidents and work refusals/stoppages.
Monitor the activities of the various operating departments and schools, to ensure legislative and regulatory reporting compliance (OHSA, MOL, WSIB), fulfil Ministry of Labour Orders and maintain provisions of the Terms of Reference for the Joint Health and Safety Committees.
Provide advice and direction to staff as to the appropriate course of action, maintaining and analyzing statistical data and required information related to health and safety issues.
Support the coordination of the Board’s response to legal challenges and external investigations with respect to Health and Safety matters including acting as resource to legal counsel at proceedings.
Act as the Board’s co-chair on the Joint Health & Safety committees.
Development and execution of strategic and operational objectives as it relates to Occupational Health & Safety and Program Safety.
Promote the health and safety of employees through an understanding of legislation, regulations, and standards to increase organizational awareness, ensure compliance, and manage risk.
Coach, mentor, coordinate training and build engagement, ensuring team members have clarity of role, understanding the expectations of program delivery to ensure each team member meets key performance indicators.
Represent the HR department on various system level committees, as required.
