Reporting to the Manager, Safety & Security Services, the Supervisor, Safety & Security Services delivers and administers the University’s security program, including overseeing the day-to-day operation of contract security staff and providing a security presence during all campus events.
- *Summary of Responsibilities**:
- Provide front-line supervision of contract security staff, including: coordinating and scheduling contract security guards; developing training materials and sessions; posting orders; attending briefings; liaising with the contract agency; and bringing matters requiring attention to the Manager, Safety & Security Services
- Help in the administration of the University’s security access control system devices (e.g. CCURE 9000) and its peripherals (e.g. card readers, etc.), including all programming (e.g. clearances, time specifications, alarms, etc.) as well as for investigation purposes
- Assist with the administration and maintenance of other security systems, including maintaining the DVR-CCTV system (e.g. Avigilon System), Alertus, radio systems and overseeing the operations of the fire panel system; assist the Manager, Safety & Security Services with installations, as required
- Assist with Health & Safety functions, services, programs and investigations, including, but not limited to: support of the Fire Warden Program, policy and procedure implementation, research, training, studio health and safety programs, contractor and chemical database management
- Assist in the development, training and coordination of the University’s emergency response team
- Coordinate and participate in all security and/or safety incidents on campus as well as provide emergency response services to all campus emergencies as required, including during off hours, weekends and holidays
- Assist with the control and distribution of the key management system for the University, including all locks, keys, maglocks and other locking mechanisms as needed
- Review and maintain the security incident database system (e.g. iTrak), including ensuring completion and/or receipt of appropriate documentation, conducting follow-up, and generating reports and statistical data of all incidents and security programs
- Coordinate all security aspects of events on campus, including the procurement of permits and legal distribution of alcohol
- Support the Manager, Safety & Security Services in matters relating to security and building operations, including reporting on breaches of policy/procedure, deficiencies, and hazards
- Assist with inspections and emergency operations of fire protection and safety equipment
- Oversee Safety & Security Services’ social media presence (e.g. Facebook), including monitoring and updating accounts
- Develop security signage, pamphlets and forms, as directed by the Manager, Safety & Security Services
- Participate on relevant University committees and professional associations/external networks, as required
- Provide support, coordination and related training, as required, to various security initiatives, including the Walk Safe Program, Lost & Found Program, Emergency Preparedness Closets, and semi-annual fire drills
- Conduct regular inspections of supplies and equipment, including first aid room and kits, automated external defibrillators, fire extinguishers, fire boxes, emergency phones and the mass notification system; complete first aid audit form monthly, update health and safety stock list, and order first aid supplies
- In conjunction with the Manager, Safety & Security Services, research and develop policies and procedures, and assist with communication and implementation; assist the Manager in the implementation of new provincial and federal legislation as it relates to Safety & Security Services, as required
- Working closely with the Manager, Safety & Security Services, educate staff and students on University security matters through training and outreach initiatives
- Lead First Aid training for staff, faculty and students, as required
- Maintain ‘Persons of Interest’ files and oversee interactions with these individuals, including apprehension and detention as required
- Liaise with outside agencies as required
- Perform general clerical duties, including word processing, filing, photocopying, and reception work
- Assist the Manager and work closely with other Supervisors, Safety & Security Services in related tasks that contribute to the successful operation of Safety & Security Services

- Post-secondary diploma in Law and Security Administration, or equivalent training certificate
- Exposure to and working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable Regulations, such 213/91(Construction) and Regulation 1101 (First Aid
