**Health and Safety Manager**

  • *Reports to**: Chief Human Resources Officer
  • *Full time**
  • *Job Summary**: To guide and manage the overall provision of Health and Safety services, policies, and programs. Working with the management team, the main objective of the H&S Manager will be to build a high-performance, safety-centric culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and the ongoing development of a superior and safe workforce. Works closely with all levels of management and employees within the company to champion pro-active safe work practices and policies. Work in collaboration with the H&S Manager Western Canada, located in Saskatchewan.
  • *Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities**:
  • Oversees and manages the work of reporting Health and Safety staff and encourages ongoing development.
  • Initiate, promote, implement and maintain health and safety policies, programs, projects and initiatives and informs management of new developments
  • Coordinate/conduct monthly safety meetings
  • Update, maintain and present safety orientations and training for all new and existing employees, visitors and contractors
  • Update Safety Manual as required
  • Provide regular and accurate statistical reports on all medical aid, WSIB/WCB incidents and injuries, lost time injuries, health-related absenteeism and disability information
  • Disability Management:
  • Liaise with WSIB/WCB and insurance providers on all claims, including completing and submitting claims, and managing appeals where appropriate
  • Case management for occupational injury and illness including managing medical information, offers of modified duties, create and proactively manager return to work plans, etc.
  • Work with the HR team on non-occupational injury and illness
  • Maintain records of all health and safety related training in individual employee files and company logs
  • Ensure compliance meets all legislative requirements, including: audiometric, air quality, forklift, WHMIS, Standard First Aid, Workplace Health and Safety Committee, etc.
  • Conduct effective hazard analysis for all work centers
  • Ensure safe work procedures are current and complete for all work centers, including maintaining health and safety bulletin boards
  • Investigate accidents thoroughly and effectively, and then respond appropriately as required, including communicating to, training and following up with supervisors and employees; monitor and recommend corrective actions
  • Issue Safety Non-Compliance orders to staff in violation of safe work practices
  • Maintain 100% compliance on ISNetworld
  • Monitors the tracking of OHS/OSHA-required data.
  • Ensure compliance in applicable legislation for Health and Safety across Canada
  • Actively participates in the implementation and daily routines of the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System
  • Actively participates and cooperates with internal/external ISO Audits
  • Foster open communication channels to upper management as required and ensure the flow of information down to all employees
  • Other duties as assigned
  • *Qualifications**:
  • Diploma or Degree in an OH&S related field of study or Human Resources, with focus on compliance highly preferred
  • Possess of one or more recognized OH&S Certifications preferred
  • 5+ years’ experience in Health and Safety
  • Possess current Standard First Aid and CPR certificate
  • Manufacturing experience
  • 1 year experience implementing and promoting safe work practices and policies
  • Experience with accident investigation, workplace inspection and job hazard analysis is preferred
  • Knowledge of current Health and Safety legislations, Codes of Practice, Bulletins and other best safe work practices and recommendations
  • Requires strong computer and research skills
  • Ability to travel to various sites (5km radius)
