U.S. Pacific Fleet, Commander in Chief SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST Pearl Harbor Naval Base , Hawaii Apply Now Summary You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Occupational Safety, Health & Environment Department of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF. Responsibilities You will perform Occupational Safety and Health Program oversight functions to ensure effective and efficient implementation of Occupational Safety and Health standards and regulations. You will identify the need for, and assist in the procurement and maintenance of equipment needed to support Occupational Safety and Health monitoring of work sites. You will make surveillances of any industrial work performed in the shipyard by employees, contractors, or other support agencies. You will coordinate performance of required inspections, checkpoints, or audits to meet regulatory requirements and ensure that work can be safely executed in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) standards and regulations. You will conduct mishap investigations in accordance with Navy mishap investigation and reporting procedures. You will direct immediate corrective action in an emergency situation to control personnel exposure to a hazard, until relieved by senior personnel. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications FOR GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-09) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: assessing safety and occupational health program regulations for industrial construction, repair, overhaul or maintenance operations to ensure workplace safety. FOR GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-07) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying safety and occupational health principles and practices applicable to planning and carrying out a safety and occupational health program for shipyard operations concerned primarily with moderately complex industrial processes. Education In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience: FOR GS-11: Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Successfully completed 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Successfully completed an LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled FOR GS-09: Successfully completed master's or equivalent graduate degree. OR Successfully completed 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR Successfully completed LL.B. or J.D., if related A transcript must be submitted with your application if qualifying using education.
