About The Role

The Health, Safety and Compliance Manager will report to the SVP, Legal and will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining policies and programs that promote a safe and healthy work environment in compliance with all applicable occupational health and safety regulations. In addition, the role will adapt, implement, manage and track compliance initiatives that are developed centrally by VetStrategy’s parent company, IVC Evidensia. This role ensures compliance with all applicable occupational health and safety regulations, fosters a culture of safety across all departments and clinic sites, and promotes a compliance program that is consistent with best practices.

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the organization’s health and safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Work with senior leadership to build, implement, and operationalize health and safety processes through a phased implementation plan.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal health and safety legislation and regulatory standards (e.g., OHSA, WSIB/CSST, public health requirements).
  • Establish processes, KPIs, and documentation standards for regular workplace inspections, hazard identification, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Lead root-cause analysis of incidents and near misses; recommend corrective actions and ensure follow-through.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and training to leaders and employees on safety best practices, safe work procedures, and emergency preparedness.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of incidents, inspections, investigations, and training programs.
  • Partner with HR/People Operations on return-to-work, accommodations, and disability management processes.
  • Monitor emerging health and safety trends and proactively recommend improvements to reduce injuries, risks, and operational disruptions.
  • Prepare dashboards, reports, and presentations for leadership, highlighting compliance status, trends, and areas for improvement.

Compliance

  • Adapt and localize Group compliance frameworks, policies, and standards for the Canadian market.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders (Legal, HR, Operations, Clinic Management) to develop, track, and report on compliance initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance requirements are effectively communicated, understood, and implemented across all clinics.
  • Lead or coordinate compliance audits, internal assessments, and corrective action follow-ups.
  • Deliver live or virtual compliance training as needed.
  • Monitor updates to legislation and industry standards; assess impact and drive necessary policy or procedural updates.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Compliance or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a health and safety management or similar role.
  • Experience in implementing health and safety programs and measurements
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation (OHSA, WSIB, CNESST, etc.) and industry best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Certification such as CSP, CRSP, or CHSC is an asset.
  • Bilingual (English/French) is considered an advantage.
