POSITION SUMMARY

The Aquatic Safety Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the safety of our aquatic facilities and activities. The role includes maintaining a fun and secure environment for all participants. Availability for weekday shifts, between 5 AM and 4 PM, is required.

Our pools operate seven days a week, so staff must work at least one full shift weekly and one weekend shift monthly for equitable coverage.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Enforce aquatic rules and safety procedures.
  • Keep the deck area free from obstructions.
  • Supervise all aquatic participants.
  • Administer First Aid and CPR when necessary.
  • Address and resolve parent/member complaints.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all areas.
  • Monitor pool occupancy and equipment.
  • Check and record pool and air temperatures and chemical levels.
  • Enforce policies regarding proper attire and hygiene practices.
  • Upkeep safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Comply with the State of Michigan Department of Health requirements.

Perform any additional functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA.

COMPENSATION

$15.50 - $19.38 ; Part-Time; Non-Exempt (up to 25 hours/week)

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma; related experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be at least sixteen years old. YMCA experience is a plus.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

  • YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification (required, in-house training provided).
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for rescue (required).
  • First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days.
  • AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 60 days.
  • Blood Borne Pathogen training.
  • State of Michigan criminal background clearance.
  • Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred.

TRAVEL

0-5% local travel within Michigan; occasional out-of-state travel may be required for training or conferences.
