**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- *Plan Management, Implementation, and Support**:
- Provides leadership and guidance with respect to health and safety programs
- Work collaboratively with JHSC and all levels of the Association to build upon our culture of safety
- Inspect workplaces for adherence to safety, health, and the environmental regulations
- Design and manage an effective workplace inspection program with regular evaluation
- Develop and evaluate a comprehensive health and safety training/education program to meet the safety learning needs of all employees
- Conduct risk assessments and routine site visits bringing hazards and substandard items to the attention of the JHSC and management
- Collaborate as an expert partner with JHSC and management to identify potential and actual hazards and conditions and recommend effective control measures
- Work collaboratively with management and employees with incident investigation, corrective actions, and reporting
- Support the OHS team on WSIB and RTW claims
- Evaluate effectiveness of H&S programs including conducting audits
- Develop policies, procedures, reports, and safe operating procedures in collaboration with management
- Maintain up to date knowledge of Health and Safety law under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and knowledge of trends and best practices in the Developmental Services Sector
- Conduct and maintain a literature review of current best practices (including applicable CSA Standards), guidance documents, legislation and other supporting documents as it relates to health and safety.
- *QUALIFICATIONS**
- *Education & Training**
- Secondary school diploma plus completion of a Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety. Undergraduated degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Health Sciences and/or related field is considered an asset.
- Certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional would be seen as equivalent to the educational requirement.
- *Experience**
- A minimum 3 - 5 years of previous experience successfully supported leaders and/or frontline staff in the administration of a Health and Safety Management system
- Prior experience working in programs to promote safety and/or mental health including working knowledge of Psychological Health and Safety Standards
- Experience in coordinating projects of various complexity and communicating status to stakeholders an asset.
- *Technical Skills & Knowledge**
- Ability to conduct research, gather data and prepare detailed analysis and reports related to Occupational Health and Safety
- Ability to effectively develop and deliver safety related training
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Internet Explorer.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Analytical, problem-solving, negotiation skills.
- Working knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems.
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Working knowledge of Community Living Toronto’s collective bargaining agreement and Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to establish rapport and work with a diverse group comprised of both management and staff.
