**Food Safety and OHS Coordinator**
- *Food Safety part**:
The Food Safety Technician will be responsible for direct examination of production lines to ensure that quality standards and procedures are met and aligned with regulatory compliance, company guidelines and customer specifications for every product. Requiring a high level of attention to detail, the Food Safety Technician will be responsible for strictly adhering to the organization's quality assurance policies and identifying defects and or production errors and reporting them to management.
- Monitor, evaluate and audit the food safety system at the facility
- Ensure the food safety program meets all operational and regulatory guidelines (which includes documenting, revising and updating programs as required)
- Act as primary contact for customers, CFIA Inspectors and HACCP System auditors
- Train employees (new and existing) on personal hygiene, Good Warehouse Practices (GDPs), HACCP, Food Defense and any other criteria necessary
- Perform self-audits of the food safety program
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety rules and regulations and Food Safety programs.
- Respect the warehouse policies, procedures, standards and follow all of the health and safety rules
- Execute visual defect inspection and testing on different stages of the manufacturing process including incoming raw materials, packaging, work-in-process products and finished goods.
- Work with leads, shift managers, operators and staff when defects are found to ensure zero defects are released to the customer.
- Control of noncompliant products by exercising isolation/quarantine, identification (place hold tags), documentation and reporting (raw material/packaging/finished product) to QA Manager/designate
- Continuous communication with QA Manager/designate, Shift Supervisor, line leads, control panel operators and staff regarding non-conformities.
- Assist in investigating internal and external complaints, find root cause and implement and verify corrective action.
- Updating and maintaining document control
- Ensure that all compliance and rules regarding warehouse policies, procedures, standards are followed. Ensure all HACCP & GFSI standards are met and regularly reviewed.
- Other duties as assigned
- *Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) part**:
- Responsible for safety orientation, safety training, job site inspections and reporting.
- Maintain awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) and Regulations and make recommendations for their implementation.
- Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations.
- Manage all occurrence reports and incident reports
- Responsible for monitoring adherence to the company safety program by all employees and subcontractors.
- Research, plan, organize and conduct training programs/seminars for supervisors and warehouse employees, with regard to WHMIS, Fall Protection, Orientation, Personal Protection Equipment, CPR/First Aid, HACCP and GFSI training
- Ensure the timely completion of accident/injury reporting to Corporate Office.
- Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
- Coordinate the activities of other occupational safety personnel within one or more divisions and departments, if appropriate.
- Plan, design, develop, implement, and evaluate departmental occupational safety programs.
- Provide guidance to field personnel via safety briefings.
- Provide advice and counsel to management and other employee groups on a broad range of occupational safety issues and decisions.
- Develop and conduct occupational safety training for various workgroups, including evaluation and modification of programs to meet local, provincial, and federal OHSA requirements.
- Coordinate inspections, investigations, and occupational safety activities with departments.
- Research occupational safety information to assure the best available methods and equipment are adopted to minimize the hazards in the work place.
- Advise on improvements in tracking and reporting procedures.
- Conduct all Health & Safety committee meetings
- Lead and/or participate on teams with safety, technical, management, and other team members.
- Periodically act as a team leader to special task forces or teams.
- Provide direction and/or guidance to less experienced occupational safety personnel.
- Provide training to managers and others on occupational safety issues.
