  • *Position Summary**:

Reporting to the Director, Technical Performance, this position leads delivery and managing a workplace safety management system for Airport Development & Technical Services (ADTS) that aligns with the GTAA’s safety management system. The role also supports the development of Technical Performance’s short-term business strategy, influence forward-thinking management decisions, and support to Technical Performance’s overall success

  • *Key Accountabilities**:
  • Lead a well-managed unit within budget and aligned to the strategic plan
  • Deliver comprehensive, high-energy, innovative competency-based training that builds the technical and behavioral strengths of Technical Services Staff while continuously improving safe practices across various channels and media
  • Collaborate with internal business units and vendors on development to identify and develop job specific technical training and occupational health and safety requirements, opportunities and to resolve training objectives within ADTS
  • Ensures the delivery and implementation of effective health and safety program services within Airport Development & Technical Services (ADTS) which aligns with, and integrates into, the GTAA’s safety management system to ensure consistency
  • Ensures and monitors all Health, Safety & Wellness activities, practices and processes are in compliance with Health and Safety, Human Resources and regulatory legislation, policies and protocols
  • Researches and provides analysis regarding legislation and internal and external bench marking of health, safety, disability management and health promotion programs
  • Presents opportunities for process and service improvements, identifying issues and gaps in effectiveness of services, researching best practices and developing and implementing improvement initiatives
  • Develop Health, Safety strategies, goals and priorities, ensuring alignment with divisional/corporate direction, monitoring changing priorities trends and emerging issues, identifying areas of potential impact to strategic plans, operations and delivery of services and providing recommendations on addressing issues

  • Support ADTS’s Technical and Construction Management system, the ADTS level safety committee
  • Support ADTS business unit mangers and senior leaders with line of sight reporting and proactive planning of annual training requirements including facilitation and/or administration of in-house, online and manufacturer and/or vendor delivered programs
  • Continued strategy development, highlighting areas of opportunity and staying up to date with health and safety and training research or trends to continuously improve safety and training programs and environment
  • As a member of management team, support and develop of technical performance business strategy, influence forward thinking and management decisions and support the overall success of the technical performance and Toronto Pearson
  • *Qualifications**:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Aviation, Business, Education or a related field with an understanding of the principles of health promotion, health and safety, disability management and associated program administration practices
  • 5+ years experience developing and leading technical training programs in a large complex unionized environment
  • Certificate in adult education or CHRP are an asset
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years’ experience in a team leadership capacity
  • Facilities management an asset
  • Able to obtain and retain Transportation Security Clearance
  • *Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare process documents, policies and project documents (e.g. feasibility study, budget estimates, etc.).
