Our Company is currently looking for a Health and Safety Assistant to join the team

  • *Position Overview**

The Health and Safety Assistant is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Slacan’s Health & Safety program. This includes (but is not limited): assisting in the development of safe work procedures, training, assisting in claims management, investigations, workplace inspections and training coordination.

  • *Responsibilities**
  • Design, implement, maintain and audit all health and safety programs/policies initiatives.
  • Manage, lead investigations, recommend corrective measures in workplace accidents/incidents
  • Audit all health and safety programs, ensuring they are up to date and compliant
  • Work alongside management in developing return to work plans and related accommodations for disability management.
  • Perform hazard/risk assessments and make recommendations to reduce exposure.
  • Participate in the excellence program on behalf of the company.
  • Interpret and provide advice to management, supervisors and associates on all health and safety matters
  • Working with management, identify potential hazards, developing methods to eliminate or safeguard risks
  • Participate as a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Identify training required, developing a training matrix to ensure all certificates, and required training is up to date. Develop a safety orientation for all new hires.
  • Design safety talks and communications for tool box talks and educational purposes.

  • Have strong health and safety knowledge, with the ability to build trust and effective working relationships
  • Hands-on, willing attitude, with interpersonal skills to maintain positive safety culture
  • Ability to work in a close team environment with overlapping/shared responsibilities and maintain positive working relationships
  • A dedicated and energetic individual who takes initiative to achieve results
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills as well as presentation skills
  • *Knowledge and Experience**
  • 1-3 years’ experience in a Health and Safety role, within a manufacturing environment, preferably within a unionized work environment.
  • Post-Secondary education in Health and Safety or related discipline;
  • In-depth knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
