Join our team todayJob descriptionReporting to the Director, Public Safety, the Assistant Manager, Public Safety, is responsible for assisting the Manager, Public Safety, with the oversight of all matters related to security and parking operations for the three hospital sites. The position is accountable for providing and maintaining a safe and secure environment for all patients, staff, volunteers and visitors through the standardization of corporate policies, procedures and practices for security including general security and protection services, security systems and surveillance, emergency dispatch and alarm response, access control management, parking enforcement and traffic management. The Assistant Manager, Public Safety, is a member of the hospital management team and participates in hospital-wide management activities as they relate to corporate initiatives.Accountabilities:Identifies security risks and makes recommendations to implement security practices to secure a safe environment for patients, visitors, staff, medical staff, volunteers and propertyCompletes a facility risk assessment evaluation to determine prevalence of healthcare security risks and vulnerabilitiesDevelops and maintains department and corporate standards, policy and procedures and site post orders for security services for all sitesEnsures all Security staff are trained in all aspects to deliver the Security Program including new officer training, progressive certification, specialized training such as use of force and leadership and development trainingSets performance standards and determines development needs based on observing performance in the fieldEnsures effective operations in security operations centre including dispatch function, alarm response, surveillance and emergency code calling and responseEnsures Security records incident reports through Osler incident reporting systems and that they are completed in accordance with Osler policies and proceduresManages notifiable incidents and coordinates with Quality and Patient Experience to report trends, document for potential legal review and conduct follow up investigations when necessaryProvides expertise in internal investigations in collaboration with Human Resources, gathering necessary evidence in matters that are of sensitive and confidentialProvides direction and responds to crisis situations and implements training initiatives in support of management of aggressive behaviourEnsures Security services respond appropriately to all hospital emergency situations categorized as colour-coded emergency codes and tests emergency response on a regular basisConducts annual surveys related to safety and security and reports outcomes to develop short- and long-term goals for improvement strategiesCoordinates with authorities with jurisdiction including provincial and local police, EMS and corrections officers to ensure that all protocols are in keeping with legislative requirementsMonitors changes in legislation and accreditation standards that effect the security program and/or personnelLiaises with external agencies including Toronto Police Service, Peel Regional Police, Toronto and Brampton Fire Departments, municipal by-laws, corrections and public health personnel for programs and policiesEnsures CCTV security cameras are monitored for security program and system parameters; incidents of interest shall be reported through the hospital’s IRS (Datix) reporting systemEnsures appropriate response to personal duress alarms and that these systems are tested on a regular basisEnsures access control systems and programs function in support of security and clinical programsProvides a secure and safe car parking environment for Osler patients, staff, medical staff, volunteers and visitors their vehicles and their propertyEnsures that day-to-day traffic management, including enforcement occurs in coordination with our parking services partnersProvides subject matter expertise for redevelopment projects and leads security transitionJob qualificationsPost-secondary education in a related security or risk management fieldCertified Healthcare Security Supervisor designationMinimum of three years related experience (i.e. working within a security department of a large hospital in a security leadership role)Knowledge of security surveillance and access control systemsExperience/training with management of aggressive behaviourExperienced in working in partnership with vendors, distributors, staff and managementWorking knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and incident reporting softwareMember of International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety preferredDemonstrated experience with facility and security equipment commissioningProven planning, organizational, leadership and communication skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsExcellent interpersonal skills, ability to motivate, inspire and facilitate teamworkCore competencies:Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, conflict-resolution and decision-making skills requiredDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an inter-professional teamDemonstrated knowledge of people-centred careDemonstrated experience with patient and family health teaching requiredDemonstrated leadership and facilitationskills requiredDemonstrated excellent customer service, organizational and critical-thinking skills requiredDemonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development as it applies to the profession and related fieldDemonstrated ability to work in a stressful environmentMust demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and CollaborationMay be required to travel and work between all Osler sitesExcellent attendance, punctuality and work recordAdditional informationHours: Currently days, 8 hours, regular onsite weekly work (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)Annual salary:Minimum: $88,413.00 Maximum: $110,526.00Fully Onsite: Roles involved in direct patient care that are needed onsite for each shift.Application deadline: December 16, 2025#LI-Onsite#LI-NP1#TFT
