- *Role accountabilities**:
- Act as a project resource, supporting project teams in their implementation of Arcadis’ H&S Program
- Contribute to resolution of H&S issues on projects & provide technical guidance to team members
- Develop and maintain technical knowledge (for example, national regulations, regulatory guidance, national standards, codes of practice, and Arcadis procedures) to ensure ongoing personal effectiveness
- Further develop an understanding of the services delivered by Arcadis, of the client’s business, and the industry sector, to facilitate personal networking and develop personal credibility in the industry
- Ensure training records, health/safety Standards or handbooks, incident/accident reports, or other documentation are appropriately maintained
- Audit project health and safety plans and their implementation
- Provide guidance in personal protection equipment selection
- Complete ergonomic evaluations and provide guidance to staff regarding their work station set up
- Monitor known health, safety, or environmental hazards, such as noise, air, or wastewater pollution levels
- Identify appropriate training mechanisms and develop and deliver training programs (with Mentor oversight and support provided as necessary) educating staff on health and safety
- Develop presentation and training materials
- Research H&S requirements across all thirteen Provincial and Territorial jurisdictions
- Conduct site-specific safety audits, complete observations of work activities, complete project-specific exposure monitoring, and provide recommendations as necessary
- Use, calibrate, and maintain various field safety instrumentation
- Train Arcadis staff and subcontractors on project-specific safety requirements
- Maintain third-party compliance monitoring databases including ISNetWorld, Avetta, Cognibox, Complyworks, etc.
- Work with the team to develop appropriate solutions to mitigate site hazards
- Conduct monitoring of groundwater wells and surface water bodies; collect soil and water samples for lab analysis
- Develop and communicate facility-specific emergency response or evacuation plans
- Coordinate JHSC’s across Canada
- Gather and analyse leading and lagging health and safety statistics from all offices and project sites across Canada
- Participate in and/or lead incident investigations
- Complete periodic office audits virtually and in person
- Source specialty PPE and training/services
Key Skills/Attributes
- Familiarity with construction site hazards and hazard mitigations
- Familiarity with Behaviour Based Safety Programs
- Familiarity with maintaining and updating third-party compliance monitoring databases including ISNetWorld, ComplyWorks, Avetta, Cognibox
- Experience in root cause analysis preferred
- Advanced research, data gathering, and analytical skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Developing skills including specialist skills, project management, relationship management, and commercial skills
- Developing specialty in at least one area of HS (e.g. LOTO, Confined Space, Electrical Safety, Fire Protection, Respiratory Protection, Fall Protection, Respiratory Protection, GHS, PIV, asbestos, lead, indoor air quality, hazardous materials) Act as a safety professional and safety leader
- *Qualifications & Experience**:
Required Qualifications
- Technical Diploma, Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline
- 2 years of relevant experience in Health and Safety
- Working toward or eligible for one or more health and safety certifications including CSP, ASP, CIH, OEHST, CHMM, etc.
- Certificate of Recognition (COR) Auditor Certification (one or more of Ontario, Nova Scotia, Alberta) preferred
- Joint Health and Safety Committee Certification Training (Parts 1 and 2) preferred

- Preferred skills - SharePoint/One Drive, Oracle
- Bilingual, French & English speaking a preference.
