$87,859.00 - $100,984.00 - $119,412.00

Summary Description

The Public Safety Education Coordinator develops, implements, and manages education and training programs that support Baystate Health’s mission to provide a safe and secure environment for patients, families, and team members. This position is responsible for the system-wide education and competency programs for Public Safety staff, the Workplace Violence Prevention (WPV) education program for all Baystate Health employees, and the development of security plans and training for high-risk and security-sensitive areas. Working in collaboration with leaders from Public Safety, Human Resources, Clinical Operations, Emergency Management, Quality and Safety, the Security Education Coordinator helps develop training programs consistent with Baystate Health policies, Joint Commission standards, OSHA guidelines, and recognized best practices for healthcare security and violence prevention.

Job Requirements

  • Design, deliver, and evaluate initial and ongoing training programs and competencies for Public Safety Officers, MPOs, Supervisors, and Managers across all Baystate Health entities.
  • Ensure training content aligns with International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) guidelines, state law, and Baystate Health policies.
  • Serve as the system lead educator for Workplace Violence Prevention training for all Baystate Health employees.
  • Develop and maintain Security Plans and associated training for sensitive and high-risk areas such as Emergency Departments, Behavioral Health Units, Women’s and Children’s Services, Pharmacy, and Ambulatory Sites.
  • Ensure all security and WPV training programs meet Joint Commission, CMS, state, and OSHA requirements.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in security operations, staff safety, and workplace violence prevention.

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to multiple Baystate Health facilities.

Working Conditions

Work performed in classroom, clinical, and administrative settings. Requires travel across all Baystate Health hospitals and ambulatory sites. Occasional evening or weekend work is required for staff coverage and training sessions.

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree in criminal justice, security management, emergency management, education, or related field

Required Experience

Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in healthcare security, law enforcement, or public safety, with at least 2 years in a training, educational, or leadership capacity.

Strong understanding of Joint Commission standards, OSHA’s workplace violence guidelines, IAHSS guidelines, and healthcare safety compliance.

Preferred Experience

Experience developing training using adult learning principles and simulation-based education.

Certifications

Preferred: IAHSS certification (CHPA)

Preferred: Certified or eligible instructor in Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), MOAB, or equivalent de-escalation program.

Required: Driver's License
