Under the direction of the Safety & Compliance Manager, the Compliance Officer ensures the safety and compliance of asset and freight shipments under his/her responsibility.
Prevention, Safety & Compliance
Verifies, audits, analyzes, complies by informing, training and supporting driver meetings by supporting drivers primarily in relation to:
- Hours of service (and log book);
- Safety rounds (and log books);
- Loads & dimensions;
- Economic driving;
- Defensive driving;
- Transportation of dangerous goods;
- Use of rolling stock (all types of tractors and trailers);
- Use of communication equipment;
- U.S. laws and regulations (if applicable);
- Customer service standards;
- LCV operation;
- Filling with LNG;
- Snow removal of equipment;
- Train driving and large road trains;
- *Other responsibilities**
- Ensures the respect and management of the drivers' hours of service;
- Ensures the respect and management of the various applicable laws;
- Ensures that the drivers are met by the operations managers for follow-ups on awareness, coaching, training and disciplinary notices;
- Bring the files of infractions and accidents to the transportation safety committee;
- Ensures the presence on the scene of accidents when required by the organization;
- Coordinates, supports and validates the training of new drivers with the driver-trainers;
- Coordinates, supports and validates the training of new drivers with the driver-trainers; Ensures follow-ups in the different computer systems and ensures due diligence in terms of compliance;
- Ensure the link and communication of requests, procedures and needs in terms of health and safety in the workplace to the Health-Safety Environment department;
- Participate in investigations and work accidents when required by the Health and Safety Environment Department;
- All other related tasks.
- *Skills**:
- Ability to influence operational employees to achieve the safety objective;
- Ability to communicate clearly and accurately both verbally and in writing;
- Ability to manage priorities according to emergencies and in a changing environment;
- Great rigor in terms of file follow-up and confidentiality.
- *Responsibilities**:
The Compliance Officer is responsible for the satisfactory outcome of the transportation safety record. The Compliance Officer will be accountable for compliance for the terminal(s) to which he/she is assigned to ensure compliance and autonomy in the demonstration of behaviors related to the various quality and safety codes, standards and norms that the company has adopted in addition to compliance with laws and regulations.
- *Authority**:
- Enforces safety and compliance laws and regulations
- May decide to prevent a safety hazard by taking a driver out of service
- Knowledgeable of applicable transportation safety and compliance rules and regulations
- Coordinates accident and violation files through to corrective action and review at the Traffic Safety Committee.
- *Special conditions**:
- Work outdoors in changing weather conditions
- Be able to get on and off a trailer and/or heavy equipment
- *Experience/Requirements**:
- 3-5 yrs experience
- Knowledge of MTO and IFTA audits
- AZ Driver Licence
- Knowledge of Highway traffic laws and regulations;
- Knowledge of MS office suite and other computer systems;
- Experience in the trucking industry. (an asset)
