Opportunity Stanislaus is assisting Laird Manufacturing in recruiting a Health and Safety Coordinator.

The Health and Safety Coordinator is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and monitoring of workplace safety programs to ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA regulations and company policies. This role assists in maintaining a safe work environment by coordinating training, conducting inspections, and promoting a culture of health and safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Health & Safety Program Administration

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring workplace safety policies and programs.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections of facilities, equipment, and work practices.
  • Investigate incidents, document findings, and ensure corrective and preventive actions are completed.
  • Coordinate safety training sessions for employees, including new hire orientations.
  • Maintain safety records, documentation and postings of 300/300A logs to ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Promote employee engagement in workplace safety through awareness campaigns and initiatives by leading safety committee meetings and promote employee participation in safety.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and managers to address safety concerns and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure compliance.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance, including punctuality and adherence to assigned schedules.
  • Comply with all company safety policies and procedures and serve as a role model for safe practices.
  • Maintains good attendance and punctuality.

Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations enforced by EPA, DTSC, CARB and local air pollution control districts.
  • Manage hazardous waste handling, labeling, and disposal according to California Title 22 standards.
  • Monitor air emissions and chemical inventory reporting (AB 2588, Tier II).
  • Promote environmental sustainability and waste minimization programs.

Training and Communication

  • Conduct new-hire, annual, and refresher safety training programs in accordance with Cal/OSHA and company policy.
  • Maintain safety data sheets (SDS) and ensure employee accessibility.
  • Communicate updates on safety policies, regulatory changes, and environmental initiatives to all levels of the organization.

Manufacturing Safety Oversight

  • Partner with production, maintenance, and engineering to evaluate and mitigate safety risks in fabrication and welding operations.
  • Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSAs) and ensure ergonomic and mechanical safeguards are in place.
  • Support safety design reviews for new processes and equipment.

Recordkeeping and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate EHS documentation and training records.
  • Prepare reports and metrics for management and regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in Cal/OSHA or environmental agency inspections and audits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field is preferred.
  • Equivalent work experience in safety, environmental compliance or manufacturing operations may substitute for formal education.
  • Knowledge of Cal/OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards.
  • Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills.
  • Excellent communication and training abilities.
  • Ability to conduct inspections, identify hazards, and recommend solutions.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to complete employer-provided training and certifications.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Meet the deadlines of individual production tasks during shift to maintain productivity for production deadlines.
  • Maintain a cooperative positive attitude to accomplish work goals of the job and work group.
  • Adhere to all company Policy such as but not limited to meal/break policy, appearance/dress code policy, and request time off policy.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and work around a changing schedule.
  • Ability to effectively manage time.
  • Provide on-the-job training to new employees.
  • Knowledge and use of basic hand tools.
  • Flexibility and adaptability — be prepared to take on additional duties and assignments outside the primary job description as needed to support the company’s operational requirements.
  • Collaborate with other departments and assist in different roles as directed by management to address workload fluctuations and company demands.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during inspections.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to bend, reach, climb ladders, and enter confined spaces as needed for inspections.
  • Exposure to manufacturing environment conditions, including noise, dust, and moving equipment.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
