**Job Description**
The People Experience Team promotes excellence in people by supporting TEAM RVH through the employee life cycle. By delivering innovative people strategies and programs that attract and retain TEAM RVH, the goal is to support a highly engaged workforce that feels valued, recognized, safe, and allows them to grow to reach their full potential.
Reporting to the People Safety Manager, the **Safety Consultant** will assist to coordinate, administer and evaluate the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s (RVH) Safety Management System and support the WSIB administrative processes. This role provides workplace safety leadership and content expertise to assist to ensure a physically and psychologically safe environment for employees, students, professional staff, volunteers, and service providers (collectively, workers), and to achieve compliance with legislative and best practice requirements. The Safety Consultant is committed to promoting a culture of safety and creating and maintaining a positive and inclusive work environment. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Complete WSIB administrative claim management tasks (e.g., Form 7 and requests for cost avoidance or cost relief)
- Independently complete and/or assist leaders with follow-up on work-related injury, illness and hazard reports (e.g., investigation, identifying root cause and risk mitigation strategies) collaborating with the JHSC as required
- Compile metrics to identify trends or provide for internal/external data reports
- Conduct ergonomic and safety assessments and provide guidance, risk mitigation recommendations and resources to leaders and workers
- Develop and maintain safety policies or programs to comply with legislation, standards and guidelines
- Develop, maintain and deliver safety education as related to policies, programs and/or legislative requirements
- Establish and develop continuous safety improvements at RVH including WSIB Safety Excellence Program
- Work with the JHSC and Health and Safety reps to ensure JHSC compliance and provide support and guidance
- Provide recommendations and develop with stakeholder input, plans to support accommodations related to safety (e.g. Respiratory Protection Policy)
- Represent RVH during interactions with or visits by regulatory agencies
- Provide written reports and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders
- Liaise with external safety sector contacts to assist with determining best practices
- Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding worker’s/patient’s personal health information.
- Assist as required with respirator fit testing
- *Key Qualifications**:
- **Experience with WSIB claim management related to investigation, report writing and requests for cost avoidance or cost relief preferred**:
- Recent experience working in an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) related field preferred and ideally within a healthcare setting
- Four-year post-secondary degree in occupational health and safety, ergonomics, science or health related field with completion of a degree, diploma, or certification related to Occupational Health & Safety preferred
- Workplace Safety Certification such as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional, Certified Health & Safety Consultant, Canadian Certified Professional Ergonomist an asset
- Ontario Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) Level 2 certification preferred
- Experience with adult education development and delivery (self-paced, virtually or in-person) preferred

- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, and preferred experience with healthcare electronic documentation systems (e.g., Meditech, Parklane, etc.)
