  • *Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
  • Ensuring compliance with STRABAG’s health and safety policies, procedures, and programs
  • Job hazard and physical demands analyses
  • Conduct regular site inspections
  • Manage site documentation to ensure timely, compliant, and accurate submissions
  • Incident and injury investigation and subsequent reporting to external parties and enforcement agencies as required
  • Experience and knowledge with COR implementation, administration and certification process
  • Oversee and improve subcontractor compliance
  • Management of the rescue team; equipment, inspections, training schedule, and compliance
  • Review occupational health and safety legislation amendments and best practices to optimize occupational health and safety programs
  • Manage the safety data sheet system as per company protocol and legislative requirements
  • Participate in enforcement agency site inspections and address concerns/orders as expeditiously as possible
  • Provide health and safety statistical reporting to applicable workplace parties
  • Coordinate and/or provide guidance and direction to health and safety personnel
  • Support the STRABAG Inc. Return to Work Program and ensure compliance with respective corporate mandates
  • Collaborate with managers and supervisors on practical return to work plans to maximize return to work protocols and avoid lost time injuries.
  • Ensure mandatory and job-specific training requirements are being met and recorded and make recommendations accordingly
  • Consult, develop and implement a site-specific safety orientation for all workplace parties on the project to ensure a comprehensive and effective understanding of potential hazards including behavioral, and their associated risks
  • Participate in annual health and safety audits to ensure the effectiveness of the occupational health and safety program and corporate certifications
  • Auditing roles that include a minimum of four (4) years experience conducting management system audits, internal ISO and COR audits, and supporting external audits with experience leading management system audits.
  • Experience in safety standards, safety planning, operational risk assessment, and/or regulatory compliance
  • Participate in workforce toolbox talks to ensure positive reinforcement of health and safety initiatives, the effectiveness of the internal responsibility system and suitable job-specific hazard identification and effective corresponding control measures
  • Procurement and inventory of health and safety items for the project
  • Monitor, amend and update the organization’s Health and Safety Handbook
  • Organize and lead safety stand downs as per client directives
  • Act as a resource or serve as a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee and ensure legislative compliance
  • Prepare and manage the occupational health and safety budget
  • Ensure the documentation and retention of all health and safety-related records for the prescribed time limits
  • Arrange, participate in, and ensure proper documentation of mock emergency drills as per legislation and corporate protocols
  • Support coordination of stakeholder requirements collection, evaluation, and response to clients
  • Perform other related duties as required
  • *Qualifications**
  • Post-secondary school diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field of study
  • Certified COR internal auditor
  • NCSO designation an asset
  • Certified Fit Tester an asset
  • *Knowledge and Skills**
  • Experience with disability management, accident investigation, workplace inspections, and job hazard analyses
  • Experience in working with large infrastructure organizations
  • Health and Safety experience in Heavy Civil Construction
  • Knowledge of the OH&S Act & Regulations for Construction Projects, Human Rights Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and other legislation as it relates to construction projects i.e., Canadian Standards, etc.
  • Previous experience in tunneling an asset
  • Minimum 5 years experience with occupational health and safety management
  • Experience with a unionized workforce
  • Proven ability to effectively plan and manage subordinates and resolve conflict in a positive and constructive manner
