- *What You’ll Do - The Role (Responsibilities)**
- Assess, document, and make recommendations to improve health and safety in the workplace at all organizational locations. This includes ensuring that all solutions are presented in both English and French.
- Perform workplace inspections to ensure the Organization complies with all municipal, provincial, and federal health and safety regulations.
- Perform inspections and audits of facilities, off-site workplaces, equipment, and processes to identify risks and make subsequent recommendations and/or suggestions for improvements to current policies and practices. All suggestions are to consider all impacted jurisdictions from both a language and legislative perspective.
- Update, distribute and provide training on the organizational Health and Safety Manual on a legislatively compliant basis.
- Write policies and procedures to improve health and safety in the workplace and train employees on any changes.
- Assist with the ordering, inspection, maintenance and required training on all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Assist in attaining and maintaining Certificate of Recognition (COR) certification and any other safety accreditations. This includes records management of all relevant internal and external audits.
- Track and document all accidents and near-misses, including investigations to understand root cause and recommend corrective action to prevent future incidents.
- Work with the management and the employee in the event of a work refusal always ensuring compliance with the various Provincial regulatory bodies.
- Lead the JHSC at the local branch and attend the JHSC meetings at all other branches (virtually or in person), take and distribute the minutes for the JHSC meetings, in a timely manner. Prepare and manage the recommendations to management resulting from the meetings.
- Manage organizational membership and actively participate with relevant industry safety groups, such as the Infrastructure Health & Safety Association (IHSA)
- Support managers and employees with workplace injury/illness claims and return to work initiatives including filing claims and taking ownership of the claims from start to finish.
- Act as the point of contact for employees seeking assistance with health and safety matters.
- Serve as the principal organizational resource for maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, and act as a safety resource and advisor to management on related matters.
- Provide support to various departments for compliance with third party organizations.
- Oversee the Organization’s emergency response program and equipment inventory (i.e., first aid kits, fire extinguishers, etc.) across the organization, including all relevant training and tracking required maintenance.
- Create, update, and maintain procedures, policies, and forms on DATS.
- Track and coordinate all employee H&S training via DATS and HR Downloads as applicable.
- Track all field service external technical training (ICE, PMH, WAH etc.) on DATS. Assist our sales and management team with providing any H&S related documents which are requested by our customers or potential customers.
- Work with H&S team members to coordinate all training, education, policies, and practices in a consistent manner across the organization.
- Provide additional guidance and added layer of coaching and support but this individual will not discipline or provide performance management input.
- Other tasks and responsibilities may be required from time to time consistent with the growth and development of the organization and the position.
- *What You Need (Requirements)**
- Post-secondary degree in Health and Safety or equivalent mandatory
- 1 - 2 years’ Leadership experience is preferred.
- Bilingual (English & French) is an asset.
- Certified Registered Safety Technician (CRST) or related professional certification is an asset.
- 4-5 years of similar industry experience required.
- Experience as a member of a JHSC with Ministry of Labour certification preferred.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certificate is an asset.
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation in all Provinces that TPGS operates.
- Field safety auditing and investigation experience required.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, ability to influence, and customer service skills.
- Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Knowledge in Certificate of Recognition (COR) program is beneficial.
- Valid driver’s license in good standing and a reliable personal vehicle required.
- Participate in Organizational sponsored training programs as provided.
